I Wandered Around In Gaudi Town Poem by Pallavi Ram

I Wandered Around In Gaudi Town

Landed in El-Prat airport at noon
Dropped off bags at hotel soon
N'er was jet lag going to get me down
As I wandered around in Gaudi town

Hasta pronto!
When all at once I saw a crowd..
..of the towers of the cathedral
High as the sky,
Standing majestic, tall, & Wow!
Tops multi-colored - what a sight!
They stretched in a never ending height,
And width
Along the block that Carrer de Mallorca be

The interior jinni snakes me
The grotto-like forest engulfs me
Am I in Fangorn? don't tell me
Ent-like pillars inside envelop me
The light tendrils entwine me
The forest smells overwhelm me
Hymns fill me
I looked for Treebeard but couldn't find thee
The stained glass windows
Filled with rainbow lights,
Stun me.
Ten thousand colors I see
A luminous & sparkling sea,
Transport me.
Jesus! Christ suspended as a cloud
That floats high in the towery sky, unbowed
Am I in heaven? Aah Gaude*!
Wait! Wait! don't tell me!

I walk up the Nativity tower
Hoping to be one with the power
It proves elusive, I come down
I walk to the Passion façade, all thawed
The figures there in exquisite grief
My heart bled for the leitmotif
I walk to the Nativity façade ahead..
..to clear my head

Alas it was time to leave,
Bereaved I felt
And gazed and gazed -
Dazed, at the gem before me
The towers follow me everywhere
In sleep, wakefulness, & in between
They have floored me fair & square
Sagrada flashes in my mind's eye
My heart complies
As I dance with the towers
And wander away from Gaudi's bower..
..And wander around in Gaudi Town.
