I Want To Write The Words Poem by Mark. A Heathcote

I Want To Write The Words

I want to write the words
I love you on a beach.
And know you are in my eternal reach.
Watch them slowly wash away.

As I hold you closer anyway.
I want to feel the salt sea air.
Leaving your lungs
And see you smile and squint.

As though you are looking up at the sun
And I want us to be singularly as one.
Waves may magically come and go.
They may pound ashore and retreat.

As though they have no destiny
To stay and meet
To linger with either shore set aside
But I am in awe of its willpower.

To swell up from the floor
To make all things crumble, surrender.
And look infinitesimally small.
But you, my love, are the conqueror of them all.
