I Was Waiting For The Darkness To Tell Me Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Was Waiting For The Darkness To Tell Me

I WAS WAITING FOR THE DARKNESS TO TELL ME

I was waiting for the Darkness to tell me
Its time to disappear,
But then the morning light came and said
‘There is Beauty greater than Literature
Open your eyes
How many souls walk in the world
And love in it
Without dreaming about the immortality given by words,
All about you Life in so many ways insists
There is so much else than what you are obsessed by.'
And I was silent for a time
And rebuked for a time
And humbled for a time
But then I went and wrote down the message
As my poem for the day,
As if there is no escaping forever the prison of one's own past
Which is what makes these words appear here
