I Will Remember Poem by shelbie bozeman

I Will Remember

We often take every day for granted. We feel life moves to slow, or is never right. We forget to see the beauty in every day, to understand that in a moment, the tides will change and your life will shift. Swept up by the incoming tide you begin to tumble, washing back and forth, never settling until you finally come to rest in a new place, somewhere new. All those who knew you, know you no longer. All those who promised, broke them. People move on with their lives, you only a distant memory on their course of life. But for me, all this is different. Every face, every name has a meaning, has a memory. Behind the faces of those I love, are the sweet memories I shared with them, that become bitter when they are gone. Forever their laughter, their love will stay in my memories, while they move on with their life. It is this cycle of life, we speed through, only to realize what we have missed. At the end of our road, when each one of us walks to the gate and you enter smiling happily you made it, and you walk past me, I will smile. I will smile in remembrance of who you used to be, and who you have become. We will drift apart, this much I know. But the value you have given to my life is far more than I could ever express. I may have only been in their lives a moment, in the entire scheme of life, but that moment I will cling to and cherish, because for that moment is when they needed me most. Once I can give them no more wisdom they leave and I smile with tearful eyes, watching who I love so dearly for years continue on with their life. All of them were a brother, a sister, a friend. Many thought I saved them from their time in darkness but it is indeed them who saved me from mine. Another soul will come along looking for a friend. Another soul will wish for guidance, the guidance I have given to so many others. As like the others, they will grow to be strong, to love themselves more fully than they have before, and then they will leave. I will be saddened when they leave, but happy to watch them grow. With every new person I learn more about me. And for that, I am forever grateful.
