I Will Rise! Poem by Kondwani Simwaba

I Will Rise!

I will Rise!
I see you seeing me from a distance; from a distance, you observe as my little flames turn blue.
I see you doubting my existence; but coexistence is all I ever advocated for, like water and a canoe.
I see you thwarting my insistence; but your persistence to see me fall, is to me nothing new.
I see you look at me with abhorrence; the abhorrence that blinds you from seeing the little goodness, I have that's true.
I see you withhold your benevolence; without assitance you subterfuge everyone into believing my Art is only temporal to stick like glue.
I see you preaching coherence; but your resistence towards giving me my crown is fathomable to non, but a few.
I see you endeavouring tirelessly to impede my subsistence; but my substance is like a phoenix, from these ashes I will rise when my time is due.
