I Wish Poem by Hailey Agnew

I Wish

I speak in riddles,
My words are intense.
But they only work in my head,
To everyone else they make no sense.
But I love him so much,
I don’t want him to go.
I want to call him mine and hold him,
I would never let him go.
That perfect, never-apart young love,
We were so close.
I love him,
But he’s leaving.
There’s nothing I can do,
But I still wonder if he’d stay if he knew.
But he’ll never know,
That every thought,
Every poetic line,
Every tear cried,
And every breath sighed,
Was about him.
It only doesn’t hurt me when he’s with me,
And I can forget my worries,
And focus on loving him,
Focus on all the little things without hurry.
But as much as I love him,
He’ll never know,
That every step he took toward the door,
It got harder to let him go.
I just want him to stay,
Safe in my arms,
With me always,
No secrets, no puns.
The way I feel is no joke,
I love him to the point of pain,
Now I have to watch him walk away,
Never having told him all the things I have to say.
So much,
I kept to myself.
Now I’m wishing I could tell him,
Wishing he would love me and keep me all to himself.
