I Wonder, How Did He A Lovely Wife? My God, Ravishingly Beautiful! Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

I Wonder, How Did He A Lovely Wife? My God, Ravishingly Beautiful!

I wonder
How did he get
A lovely wife
Unasked,
A ravishingly beautiful wife
Failing a Western beauty or blonde
As beautiful as a red rose
Or an apple
Or a balsam
Or a poppy bloom,
But her husband
Not only dark
But without a cutting.

See the Jurisprudence of God,
The Justice He dispenses,
Had He given me a dark wife
But with a nice look or cutting
I would have accepted the gift gladly
As not so low prize gotten,
But she in spite of somewhat not good-looking,
Does not hear me,
Which hurts me indeed to think,
But above all,
Had her nature been good,
I would not have after all,
What will man do with colour or complexion,
It is but nature which matters,
But she is as speechless as a rock,
What to say it more?
