I Wrote A Poem In Prose
So easy to understand
Everyone said
I'm a one- dimensional man-
Then I wrote prose
Of complex ambiguity
And everyone said
I'm obscure as Poetry-
Then I did not write
Anything at all
And everyone said
My world is so small-
I wrote and wrote
To mend my name
But it no longer existed
Despite my shame-
And here I am
Old as seventy
Writing still the Prose
Of too simple Poetry.
