If Poem by Kay Bressner

If

If I was a wild flower, an orchid,
in the Everglades, I might be

Like the butterflies in the cypress forest
draping the branches of pond apple trees

In community with the red
maples and swamp bay

I could be a purple clamshell orchid,
yellow leafless or pink ionopsis

And the white wood storks
could be my close friends.
