If Poem by Nina gáspari

If

IF I were you
I wouldn´t be who I am
I wouldn´t take the roads I take
I wouldn´t keep what I bring within my soul
Maybe I´d be even calmer
If I were you
I wouldn´t think of so many things for so long
Nor would I try to read your thoughts
Maybe I´d even develop a slower reasoning
If I were you
I wouldn´t see what I see
What my eyes show me, what I give myself to
I wouldn´t even dare to change, not for just one day
This habit of mine, of running without looking at the ground
If I were you
Maybe I´d do it all differently
I would preserve what matters, and focus
On the most beautiful exponent
If you were somebody else, maybe myself
You would know beyond all the books you have read
And still, you would know nothing at all
But still, if I were you
I would learn to live then to believe
I would chase my dreams, even if in vain
Ah…if I were you..
Perhaps not..
