If Poem by Gordon Merritt

If

If suddenly the stars stopped shining
and the sun left the sky
I would not miss them.

If the wind did not stir gentle breezes
and the rainbows lost all of their color
I would not grieve
If the birds ceased their singing
and the flowers did not bloom
These things would not affect me

For I see the starlight in you eyes
And the sunlight in your hair
I sense the gentle touch of the wind
When your hand brushes my face
And the beauty of the flowers in your smile
As long as you are in my life
I will see colors more vivid than in any rainbow
