If I Knew What Love Is Poem by Mpho Leteng

If I Knew What Love Is

If I knew what love is, I'd grasp its might
With certitude, I'd claim it as my right
I'd slay my doubts, and rise with morning's light
To kiss your forehead, and banish endless night

I'd love you now, and forevermore, alive or dead
In memories, I'd hold you, like a treasure unsaid
I'd write your name, in ink of golden hue
And in the annals of time, our love would shine anew

Like the land that time forgot, I'd cherish every moment we share
And in the silence, I'd whisper secrets, beyond compare
I'd sing your praise, like the songs of Solomon's choir
And in your eyes, my heart would forever aspire

I'd grow old with you, through laughter and through tears
Through every up and down, through all our passing years
I'd love you more than words could ever say or do
For in your love, I'd find my home, my heart, my everything anew

If I knew what love is, I'd take it by the hand
And together we'd dance, in this world so grand
I'd cherish every moment, every glance, every sigh
For with you, my love, I'd never say goodbye
