If Only I Had a Friend Who Was Exactly Like Me
— by Shahid Nisar
If only I had a friend who was exactly like me,
Who kept the depths of their heart like a calm sea,
Who didn't say a word, but understood me,
Who listened to my heartbeat and knew my every need.
If only I had a friend who was just like me,
Who would say, 'I'm here for you, ' and set me free.
If only that friend was my father,
Who would do everything for me.
If only I had a friend who wouldn't judge my tears,
Who'd stand beside me through the silent years,
Who would hold my hand without being told,
And turn my loneliness into pure gold.
If only I had a friend who felt what I feel,
Who'd know the wounds I try to heal,
Who'd speak with silence when words are too much,
And comfort my soul with a gentle touch.
If only I had a friend who stayed when I fell,
Who saw through the masks I wear so well,
Who'd carry my pain like it was their own,
And never leave me broken and alone.
But maybe that friend is just a dream,
A shadow of hope in a silent stream.
Still, I pray one day I'll see,
Someone who's exactly like me.
