If Only It Had Been Hers. Poem by Jessica Millsaps

If Only It Had Been Hers.

Rating: 3.5

Living lost in memories,
With days passing us like years,
And eternities gone in mere seconds,
The past is always here

A spirit is gone,
A soul is broken,
And a heart to remain unmended,
But there is a sliver of hope

Nothing can say for sure what will happen,
An nothing can say what won't.
We are free in our minds and in our hearts
To feel, think, and be what we will.
Oppression will not hold me down

We live day by day just to survive.
No emotion, no feeling,
Just cold hard calculating words
Spilling from lips that have not smiled

Laughter is lost in the childs playground,
And hope seems all but there to the soul,
Living alone in a hospital room,
No family to visit,
But we simply exist

Life cannot hold you forever,
And the closer you get to dying,
Sometimes if the closest you'll ever truly get,
To truly living.

Happiness is an illusion,
But it's one that has worked well,
A simple smile can save a life,
If only it had been hers.

They loved forever,
But freedom was stolen,
And no amount of protest could save,
The one thing they needed most

And now I'm begging you,
Laying somewhere cold,
To save my own,
Before it gets too late.

There are some spelling errors, but I'd say you're in the right direction. Good poem.
