If She Did Love Her Lover First Poem by Colin Breck Boardman

If She Did Love Her Lover First

If she did love her lover first,
And give her heart away,
So'd suffer then all others worse,
With whom she could but play.

If she did hang her loving sights
Upon a star which fell,
So'd lessen then all other lights,
To shine, but not to dwell.

If she did sing her love a song
To fall upon deaf ears,
What hope for us who don't belong,
But comfort for her tears?
