If You Want To Approach A Jaguar Poem by Mia Baer

If You Want To Approach A Jaguar

If you want to approach a
jaguar in the night
You must show some trust.
I am so still.
I see a flicker in the jaguars eye
He's a wild thing,
A beast of the jungle.
A jungle bird dips his beak in the
still water
The jungle animals are accustomed to the night
They see me, through me
I do not see them. I am blind. It is dark.
My eyes wide like a fish never blinks.
All I can see is the flicker in the jaguars eye.
And I am all that I see.
And all I see is me and my reflection in the jaguars eye.
And that is all I see.
