Imaginary Friend Poem by Liberty Smart

Imaginary Friend

She's got a handful of sunbeams
A head full of empty dreams
I hold the gate open for her
But she doesn't care

We follow the receding tides
Search the beach for salty lies
Open-palmed kisses shared
With the howling wind

I'm not sure where or when
I became Barbie's Ken
But I remember burnt fingers
And eating melted marshmallows

We said we'd always be friends
That growing up never ends
But seems we were wrong
Because now her door is closed

A shadow of our former days
And memories of yester-plays
Are over and done with now
It's just a dream I had
Or wanted at one time
