Imagination Poem by Alejandro Torres

Imagination

Heady recognition of events
Daydreams that seem like memories
Of a future we’ve yet to fulfill
I spend early morning hours smiling in a daze
Like a wino
Drinking from the fountain of youth
Drinking for an imagination fueled by love
By and for you

Time flies as the music flashes before my eyes
Always wrought with moving pictures of you
How wonderful these cascading pictures feel
Like red silk against sun kissed flesh
Maybe I was a vagabond
Maybe you were the Princess I sought
In some parallel universe

And though I left you to conquer an illusion
Some misguided attempt at finding strength
The time passes along with your words
And I find any resolve I might have had gone
Faster than I can blink an eye
And the thoughts come unbidden
Faster than a drink in my hand or a cigarette
Perching itself between lips like your name

There were times when I closed my eyes
Times when I curled in to the darkness
To keep you at bay
But now I revel in the images flowing
Like benediction
To something old yet so new
An ancient power with a young face
I swear I’ve loved you an eternity
And a lifetime over

There are days when the cold permeates to the bone
When a strong black coffee wont shake the chill
But during those exhausting times
I close my eyes and see a world we’ve yet to discover
Times we’ve yet to share
Universes we’ve yet to explore
And the black doesn’t seem as intense
As the mistakes we’ve both made

When we meet
Will you smile like the past came to love?
Like I came to know?
Or will we move like a body electric
Magnetized like two pieces
Pulsing together
Tell me
In the end we’ll turn the world on its ear
No matter the cost

There is a future out there like a gift
Waiting for you to open it
Never a need for supplication
But if its what you need then I’d ask
In hindsight of declarations
Take the ribbon
And untie the remainder of our lives

There is freedom
In the flowing images of a future pristine
Ripe with possibilities
Much like dreams
Much like love
Very much like fairy tales and myths
Like the stories little girls feed on

So Princes let’s ride the stallion in to the night
Remember I’m just a wino in love
With the essence of you
Brimming my cup
