Immortality Poem by Shruti Goswami

Immortality

In a single lifetime;
When there's so much to do;
And so little time;
When blooming buds are nipped;
Even before they are kissed
By the first rays of sun;
What draws me then,
Is immortality.
For is not that the only thing
Mortals strive to achieve?
Through age old sagas of love and life,
Through the celebration of beauty,
Timeless and enchanting,
Or the touches of intellect;
Sacrifice, call of nation or duty.
We live on, long after we are gone;
Through the generations that follow.
In vain I try,
To achieve the unachievable;
Through my creations;
As time slips by;
Like sand through a wire mesh.
Striving hard to tie together;
The delicate threads of time;
Where life is still worth living for;
And words in poems do rhyme.
What greater honour then could one have;
When the creator is created upon;
And instead choose to be immortalised,
By compassionate strains of timeless verses.
