Abandoned Poem by Shruti Goswami

Abandoned

The deity, resplendent, stood,
In a shabby dungeon,
Shrouded in mystery.
Who knows, who prays?
Curious, I peek,
From behind the car window;
To catch a full glimpse.
The cars, at a standstill:
How old is God?
The honks and the hustle bustle;
Is it abandoned? Odd!
As the jostle for start begins,
I pull away, unsure, unclear.
Suddenly, a lady appears,
Wrinkled, draped in white:
Barely able to walk.
Came out, from behind the deity,
Slowly towards the grill.
We zoomed past,
A prayer said,
And in my heart,
The child, I felt,
Finds true comfort,
In her mother’s nest.

Well, my mind is a little like this- I sense the presence of god, but not like in scriptures (any scriptures I guess) but if we humans must worship a god, we must use familar things (words..scriptures, etc) and so I have no disturbance with holy verses, but I find this poem appealing because it leaves certain things open to interpretation (at least in my mind from reading it) and I enjoyed the feeling of awe it contained. (for me anyway)

i find my worthy colleagues comment a bit harsh.... i bit of imagination and a peek into history, a sensitivity to others religious belief...and nothing remains unclear or hidden it is a marvelous portrayal of a common happening in India loaded with peace and harmony....a return...so to say well written.liked it a lot cheers sat
