Imperatives Poem by Rob McKercher

Imperatives

LIVE frail spirit
live within yourself
live as both clay and sculptor
use your artistry
to mold a masterpiece

SING as a diva sings:
bold, forceful, passionate
Sing the full range of notes
with richness that resonates
throughout the hall

DANCE with grace and strength
dance with joy and confidence
with a partner or alone
dance with the balance of a prima ballerina

SPEAK as a Shakespearean actor
with charismatic stage presence
and stentorian authority

LAUGH as a child laughs
in abandonment and without shame

SMILE as a new mother smiles
when she holds her baby for the first time

LOVE frail spirit
love as your heart needs
love in defiance of expectations
that ignore reality and the beauty of truth
Love as others love you
