Impudent Harvester Poem by Ikechukwu Otuu Egbuta

Impudent Harvester

IMPUDENT HARVESTER
(COVID-19 PANDEMIC)
With pangs of arrogance,
Thou announce your presence:
Making unexpected connections,
With such a disconnected precision,
Inaugurating humanity's cessation and pouncing on her serenity,
Forestalling her boom; leading her to doom,
Discharging ocean of tears from our Insufferable heart agonies,
Exposing the material out of which heaven weaves its brightest rainbows,
Mowing down grasses; hewing forest trees; reaching the rich and the unrich alike,
Igniting fear in enormous magnitude,
Striving for survival in Hipparchus' latitude,
Visiting our world,
Leaving us in anguish to languish in isolation ward,
Considering no beauty,
Respecting no nobility,
Tilting our fundamental rights towards destruction and confusion;
Our social symbols and medallion,
But mere haven for flora and fauna.
Oh! Thou Penal and malignant harvester; downright diabolical harvester,
Thou immortal mystery maneuvering human thinking,
What happens to the seed
When the husk is hum used?
In apparent pinnacle of bliss,
We laugh with ease,
Thou who give sorrow give peace.
