In A Lover's Absence Poem by Tracy Craighead

In A Lover's Absence

Sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly breathe,
I stare at the fan rotating in perfect harmony
with music from my speaker trying to turn in time with me.
The rhythm of our love, we keep in step,
a dance of the knowing.

I memorized your heart and kept your soul.
I know the mole on the back of your neck.
Every crevice and curve are captured in my mind.
Thoughts of you and your arms defined,
Overpowered by you, but I want it….
Giving in, when I should resist.
Lord, I can only pray for this happiness.

In your absence, I yearn and reminisce.
On fire all day long, never a break.
Needing you inside and out,
Wanting to be disheveled from a lovemaking bout.
Mess up my hair, set my cheeks afire,
red from passion, flames much higher.
I would never tire from constant stimulation,
abandon all ties, surrendering to your sensations.

When will you return and stake your claim in me…
on me… with me…dreams of ecstasy.
