In A Small Country Township Poem by Francis Duggan

In A Small Country Township

In a small Country Township one can feel all alone
Around me dry gray Countryside around me rock and stone
The day is warm and breezy the weather is so dry
And the sacred ibis on silent wings above the paddocks fly.

The ancient volcanic mountain it is as old as time
It has inspired the artists and the poets to song and rhyme
In this dry place no quagmires or loamy soil or clay
And quite sparse in trees for shelter on a warm and windy day.

Quite sparse in trees for shelter when Winter winds blow chill
Across the rough dry paddocks and the volcanic hill
I've been in places beautiful and always lush and green
But this place has it's beauty though more rugged I've not seen.

On silent wings the ibis are calling whilst in flight
Above the stony paddocks in the warm sunlight
In a Town free of pollution in a Land that's very old
From mid Spring to the Fall 'tis warm and dry and the Winter dry and cold.
