In Holistic Homage, Envisioning Poem by Ananta Madhavan

In Holistic Homage, Envisioning

What is obvious is often left unseen,
Unless we are prompted to remark
On some novelty of form or shade
In scenes we are too surfeited to see
As utterly unique. We tend to filter them
As horizon, pallid skyline, cloudy hill.

We hasten to get ready for the usual
Working day, memos, errands, demands -
Nothing remarkable.We do not miss
The particular dark of this new dawn
In gauzy veils of mist, patterned clouds
And geometry estranged by numb routine.

I do not want to drown in flooding images.
But on those days when I wake up by six,
I like to step on to the balcony
And hug the morn with my arms outstretched,
Then slowly raise my folded hands in homage:
‘Namah Savitre! ' Give us Wonder,
Empower our solar sphere with rationale
To marvel at the gossamer that links
One and all.

Note:The invocation, 'Namah Savitre! ' is a psalm to
the Supreme that empowers the Sun and all Cosmos,
called 'srishti' in old Sanskrit. It is in the
Veda lore, still practised by some Indians.

In gauzy veils of mist, patterned clouds
And geometry estranged by numb routine.

I do not want to drown in flooding images.
But on those days when I wake up by six,
I like to step on to the balcony
And hug the morn with my arms outstretched,
Then slowly raise my folded hands in homage:
‘Namah Savitre! ' Give us Wonder,
Empower our solar sphere with rationale
To marvel at the gossamer that links
One and all.
