In Memory Of General Gordon - Poem by Brian Harris

The Empire's setting sun
Herald's the return of a warrior's glory.
An effigy in bronze
Tells of distant battles won.
From a silent field of sand,
Wherein now lie the tokens
Of a nation's blood,
Returns a treasure-trove,
From the coffers of Omduran.
