In Search Of A Godfather Poem by Venkateswaran Krishnan Sreenivasan

In Search Of A Godfather

Godfather is neither god nor father
Just two good words strung together
For the sacred duty to baptize; not to tether
Any loving bond to last for ever

He is not endowed with god’s powers
Or father’s rights; still his name towers
High above others in our day to day use
And succumbs to much abuse

I too am a victim to this godfather sickness
Many a publisher is a witness to my weakness
Having failed in my search for a godfather dear
To see my poems in print to bring me cheer

The godfather is often dragged to blame
For failure to bag the position you claim
It is a mask to hide your pride and shame
For your incompetence an excuse lame
