In The Dark Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

In The Dark

In the dark

Tonight, I did what I
used to do as a child.

I walked in dark of night
By myself, all alone…

I followed the creek
And rarely heard frogs.

Not a soul, nor a bike
Less bush and more shrubs
Added to the fright…

Flashbacks:

To the hill and plains
To dead lakes of deserts
To mountains and to caves
And Chaco, most of all…

I whisper and smile:
"Hey old man, go and die! "

I keep asking myself:
"Where has gone strength?
What about confidence? "

Then smile once again:
"If useless, better dead,
Wish stopped my breath! "

City made me worthless,
I hate my uselessness,
Prefer wilderness.

In silence of the park,
Tightly, fingers crossed:
"Somebody or something
Whoever, what maybe,
For, without a reason
Come kill me in darkness! "
