Indelible Poem by Richard Theze

Indelible

That which is lost,
Is not gone
Though it can never
Be returned.
Instead,
It will continue to exist,
Always,
In the fabric of our memories,
And of those
Who, then, were close to us;
Preserved,
In the captured moments
Of old photographs;
Registered,
Indelibly,
In the printer’s ink,
Long dried on official records,
(Especially those pertaining to our marriage
And the dissolution thereof):
Treasured,
In the thoughts and feelings
Once communicated
In forgotten letters,
Cards, texts
And telephone calls;
Crystalised,
In the recycled glass
Of empty wine
And champagne bottles
From which we toasted
In realisation
Of all our joys,
Sorrows,
Hopes and fears;
Reflected,
In the careful choosing of the names
We gave them;
Personified,
In all that remains,
Of us,
Of you -
Our children.
