Innocent Blood Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

Innocent Blood

Why do you shed?
The blood of the innocent
In the time of peace
Without committing a crime
What have they done?

To deserve this early exit
Away to an early grave
The land of no return
Only crime is been label
Men of loose value; low moral
Compared to their assumed
Religious and sanctimonious
Hegemony

Who can defend the unseen?
Or fight on his behalf
Cause the second atrocity
Is far greater than the first
Why shed the blood of the just
To appease your evil minds
Unseen you claim to defend

The unseen has enough power
To fight his own battles
For every war and battle
The innocent suffers
Yet, the unseen will
Neither condones nor tolerates evil
Or make vain the innocent blood
Why not sheath your sword
And allow reason to prevail
No one goes to war
And not count the cost
The consequences for now
And for generation to come
