Inside Out
With her eyes never leaving the ground
She pulls her hair down over her face
Her lips never break into a smile
The world doesn’t see her pretty face
If eyes are mirrors into the soul
Hers will never be revealed
She’ll never look you in the eye
She’ll use her lashes as a shield
But every now and then I see something change
A flush comes across her soft cheeks
She almost smiles, then covers her mouth
For a moment I hear her heart speak
For that flash of a smile, I see once in awhile
Is brighter than midafternoon
Then clouds cover her eyes, it’s no surprise
The shine disappears way too soon
She thinks she’s just plain, I can’t explain
How her mind can’t see what’s outside
Why can’t she see that she’s beautiful
Inside out, she’s no reason to hide.
