Instant Fix Poem by Nina Bej

Instant Fix

This poem is still under revision, so suggestions are welcome. Right now it's just an expression of thought. It was originally a song, so it might sound a little incomplete in poem form.

It's so easy. Sneak out, start the car
Hit the Wal-Mart and you've gone too far
Take a right into the neighborhood
Park one house down and don't forget the goods.

Come in through the basement door,
Bring friends. The more the merrier
Pretend we're blind to all the risks
Transcend into a height we can't resist

Just one more hit
I can handle it
Just one more drag
I need it bad
Just one more bowl
I crave control
Just one more hit
An instant fix

Smoke away your problems one by one
They fall away and you're just left with one
Time will tell if it persists
But time won't tell you how to quit

90 days till your system is okay
Your head is spinning with the usual disarray
You wonder, Could I have f***ed up any worse?
What a mistake. But you don't change,
And drugs still come first.

Just one more hit
I can handle it
Just one more drag
I need it bad
Just one more bowl
I crave control
Just one more hit
An instant fix

Just one more hit
I can handle it
Just one more drag
I need it bad
Just one more bowl
I crave control
Just one more hit
An instant fix

Just one more hit
And I'm enslaved
Just one more hit
And I'm okay
Just one more hit,
Just one more hit.
Just one more hit
Hurt yesterday.

Come in through the basement door,
Bring friends. The more the merrier
Pretend we're blind to all the risks
Transcend into a world of instant fixes

I smoke away my problems one by one
They fall away and I'm just left with one
Time will tell if it persists
But time won't tell me how to quit

Time will tell if I'm addicted
Time will tell if I resist it
Time will tell me I'm conflicted.
Time, please tell me I can fix it.
