Internal Reflection Poem by Brandon Owens

Internal Reflection

We spend so much time trying to hide from the end
'Cause the end is to die
And to die is to fill our hearts with tears
It's raining so hard here
And the puddle pools up on the ground
You look into it
To see if your happiness can be found
But all you see is your reflection
We spend so much time avoiding the shadows
To be in shadows is to be forgotten
And to be forgotten
Is to fill this existence with loneliness
Why is it so dark here
The emptiness creeps into the spaces
But I can still see you
Covering up your permanent scars
When did you begin to feel so ugly
When did you forget that you loved me
We spend so much time
Trying to cast the doubts from our minds
To doubt is to not know
And not knowing fills us with fear
I admit I don't know anything
But I'll face my fears
Rather than have your disease
I'll die if I have to
Stand alone in the rain
As long as you learn
You can't run from this pain
Your past can't be changed
