International Woman's Day 2018 Poem by Felix Emeka George

International Woman's Day 2018

Yet another women's day,
all girls, women today
I remember.
You are mother in the beginning
You were kept at home to help mother
While brother went to school
why? ?
Excuse of exorbitant fees,
turned you a vendor.
At the market
and laborer in the family farms
Saying no need of school
Excuses just for you
to end in the kitchen and other rooms.
ThisI know aspatriarchal,
from ancient cultures and societies.
Which makes a woman product for our environment
Instead ofproduct of her
Heart pursuits,
where the sky is nolimitation.
If she changes her name to suit her maiden
Is it the reason, many worshippers go undercover to hinder her from school?
Who want a girl of twelve married to a potbellied old man of fifty.
Is that the reason for Chibok and dapchi girl abductions?
For fear to grip mother and father into saying,
better that our girl remain at home comely;
Away from the marauding murderous beastly terrorists.
Making itreligious for girls and women to become
common commodity in the market place
If not how can a hounded terrorists say
" I sold off some of the chibok girls "
A belief and a sex slave tragically on.
To shame and terrify courageous candle burning girls to ebb,
then frog-jumped into motherhood.
Their families traumatized
I can see clearly now in their mind
'bring back our girl and release our daughters'
And school will not see her again.
But let it not deter youmen and women of hope.
Give a thought that mother of all mothers
Better the runner of many statespast
And beyond these few well-known figures in our land
There are many trailblazing women
You've probably never heard of,
Who forever are conquerors.
Which is why we celebrate you woman, today
