Into Your Silence Poem by Kevin Rice

Into Your Silence

Am I secure in silence?
Am I safe
When I am still?
Is there peace in repose?

Your words say
Be still
And know that I am God.
My life says
Run further and faster
Do not be trapped by quietude
Do not be endangered
By ever slowing down

My life says
Discover your holy grail
In exploit and action
Find the victory in gaining and getting
Beware the deceits of restfulness
Pause for breath at your peril

Your words are spirit, Lord,
And they are life
Therefore this day and every day
I shall pause, a little and often,
Be silent and serene
and step aside
Into your silence.
