Invasion Of Patience Poem by Mohammed Dib

Invasion Of Patience

opening her own way
and always alone always
calm under a pall

always the length departing
advancing as much as ebbing
the reverent wave

kneeling water most naked water
patient before barriers
forsaken just the same

water beyond herself to gorge
a drumming of birds
and to live blind as well as black

-Translated from the French by Carol Lettieri and Paul Vangelisti
