'It' Poem by Umme Ayman Kazi

'It'

It's late at night, the sun is down,
So why am I sitting with this frown?

My feelings are scattered, mood is hell,
I have a story, no one can tell.

I'm scared and fearful, dark all around,
'It' moves towards me, without a sound.

What is 'it'? What is 'it's' intention?
Is it time for me to ask for subvention?

Who do I ask help to? Who will come?
They'll think I am being sensitive and dumb.

Maybe I don't even need any help at all,
'Coz asking for it will be my downfall.

It'll make me vulnerable, it'll strip me naked,
Will sculpt me into someone I've always hated.

They'll take advantage of that and turn it against me,
They'll throw me away for the world to see.

But how do I deal with this 'it' in the dark?
There is no light, nor a spark.

Who is 'it'? I want to see.
Is 'it' waiting to pounce on me?

Chase me around while I get lost,
Running a road I've already crossed.

(He'll) Tear me apart and devour me in,
Drink my blood like committing a sin.

Or maybe 'it' is something good,
Maybe I've got 'it' misunderstood.

When the sun comes up, it will be clear,
Till that happens, I will persevere.

Run through the darkness, again and again,
Running from 'it', until then.
