It Poem by Oni Lasana

It

IT aka CANCER by Oni Lasana (c) 2013

IT, took my good friend, my lover, my male me.
It, stopped our song before it ended
our dance before we tired out
our lives before it was over
It took years before IT did
what a bullet missed
RIP 1981

IT, took my sister, the dancer, a vegetarian.
It ran riot through her blood.
Was it inherited? Was it dairy. Was it IT?
What kind?
IT put her to sleep in a month.
Something about blood
Non-Hodgkins, Hodgkins?
Too late
to find out.
RIP 2009

IT, took my mother.
IT hit her in the stomach.
She never knew she fed IT
Chemicals from 'unhealthy choice' frozen dinners.
IT, overpowered steamed collards, kale, all her vitamins,
IT killed her daughters devoted love hopeful hopes
IT took two years
before
IT laid her to rest
RIP 2011

IT took my friend.
It grabbed her breast like a angry lover
Lymphoderma
IT hardened half her body
Once beautiful, brown and smooth.
She looked like elephant man in the end.
Turning her lovely face into painless peace
IT won.
RIP 2012

I loved them, prayed with them, cared for them, laid next to them, made them laugh, read books to them, played kingdom melodies, cooked for them,
juiced veggies & fruit fed them rubbed feet massaged oiled scalps walked to the bathroom with them, wiped clean, kissed hugged
As requested
I NEVER cried
IT moved on
hopefully
gone for good.
