It Can Never Be You Poem by Jennifer Sollmann

It Can Never Be You

Every time I think I’m done
I see you and I know I’m not
I’m overwhelmed with a passion
Of an unknown origin
Your eyes draw me to you
And my heart is filled to burst
I know I fade away in your thoughts
While you’re increasingly prominent in mine
And yet, I know deep inside we’ll never be
To my surprise, I’m okay with this
And I realize, half of my attraction
Is that you don’t feel the same way
A vibrant truth echoes within me
We met too soon and I fell too hard
A stranger love whisked through air
Borne from the fear I need to release
Find someone who will be true
Find someone my heart gives free
It can’t be you, it can never be you
