It Could Have Been Me Poem by Samantha Lynn

It Could Have Been Me

It could have been me,
in the fifth grade,
when I was hit with overwhelming sadness.
It could have been me,
in the eighth grade,
when I was bullied relentlessly.
It could have been me,
in the eleventh grade,
when my best friend took his life.
It could have been me,
in my senior year of college,
when I was isolated from the world.

It could have been me,
but I chose to live,
even when the world turned its back on me.
It could have been me,
but I chose to grow,
even on the darkest of days.
It could have been me,
but I chose to prosper,
even when I didn't think I could.
It could have been me,
but I chose to move forward,
even when those I loved pushed me back.

It could have been me.
