It Is Not About War, by Anna Lemert Poem by Galina Struchalina

The war has come to the town.
Mines are going down, going down.
Town's water line nearby got blown,
And the stream leaks, so muddy and hot,
Keeping intermingle with blood.

Not a hero, nor a soldier, an ordinary guy,
Sergey is fixing plumbing while mines are flying by.
He is doing his best, but the spray is so high,
Water hits like a fountain, suffocating with steam,
And the blood drops are watering him.

And eventually, his own mine has met him that day.
That was the last of the mines and enough for Sergey.
Though he's raised from the Earth, there's no chance for him to stay.
So he steps to the sky, his steps' shining is bright,
Only dimple of shrapnel near his eyebrow side.

Where else should he come? To the Heavens, of course.
With the black shadow of Earth on his back knocks on the Doors.
'Lord, thy pipes leak so badly, ' he says afterward.
'Bloody shower, it falls from the sky.
We should fix it, my Lord. Let me try.'

Совсем не о войне

В город пришла война.
В город ложатся мины.
В городе разорвало водопровод,
и течёт вода мутным потоком длинным,
и людская кровь, с ней смешиваясь, течёт.

А Серёга - не воин и не герой.
Серёга обычный парень.
Просто делает свою работу, чинит водопровод.
Под обстрелом, под жарким и душным паром.
И вода, смешавшись с кровью, фонтаном бьёт.

И, конечно, одна из мин
становится для него последней.
И Серёга встаёт, отряхиваясь от крови,
и идёт, и сияние у него по следу,
и от осколка дырочка у брови.

И Серёга приходит в рай - а куда ещё?
Тень с земли силуэт у него чернит.
И говорит он: «Господи, у тебя тут течёт,
кровавый дождь отсюда течёт,
давай попробую починить».
