It's In My Name Poem by Courtney Casebolt

It's In My Name

Bedroom doors are closing
I’m hearing whispers in the dark
My emotions are bruising
As you slowly tear me apart
I don’t know what I did
Or even what I said
But it’s as if every time someone thinks of me
I hear another scream

Chorus
You hear my name
And feel full of shame
Not only because I’m your daughter
But because I don’t know my mother
There’s a ton of confusion
It’s in my name
Sorry I’m not your perfect little girl
I’ve realized the cruel world
I only wanted you to be happy
But you still look down on me
And I’m the only one to blame
Yeah it’s all in my name

God knew when I was born
I would take my first breath
In a world which was torn
You can leave out the rest
I know how it will end
I was born to struggle and be scorned

Chorus

I lock the door and sit alone
I wish there was a place
I could call my home
I can’t even look at your face

Chorus

It’s all in my name
All of your shame
It’s in my name
I’ll be the one you blame
Cause it’s in my name
