It's Just Me Poem by Lee Henry

It's Just Me

What you see is what you get, accept it, reject it, it's just me!
Tall, dark and handsome or not is in the eye of the beholder, someone said.
Sensitive, caring, and gentle is my projected view.
But what does it matter, he said, she said, they said, we read.
What you see is what you get, accept it, reject it, it's just me!

What you see is what you get, embrace it, push it away, it's just me.
fun, adventurous, and full of life someone might say.
Grounded, solid, and In my opinion, faithfulness is my crown.
But what does it matter, he said, she said, they said, we read.
What you see is what you get, accept it, reject it, it's just me!

What do your eyes see? What does your heart believe? can they see?
What do your ears hear, what does your mind think? Can they hear?
Should I be bound by your eyes, your heart, your ears, your mind?
Can I help the fact that your judgments are blind?
What you can't see, is what you don't get, that's why you won't accept it.

No, rather you choose to reject it. The real tragedy is you never get the chance, the opportunity, the highest honor, of experiencing, a sensitive,
caring, gentle, fun, adventurous, and full of life individual. One who wears
faithfulness as a crown. This is a tragedy, a sort of death, a great loss. I have been afforded the chance to experienced your spite, hatred, rejection, and prejudice, all because, you can't see, that it's just me.

At first I wasn't sure if I liked the repetition, but as I got further into the write I found it worked. It's a shame everyone's perceptions of us are different from our own, and yet somehow I think that might be a good thing.
