A Little Fun Keeps You Young - Poem by Meggie Gultiano

A Little Fun Keeps You Young

A little fun keeps you young;
A little laughter keeps you bright.
When you get to that age
When a mid life crisis looms
Go out and act like a kid again.
Don’t worry what the neighbors might say
They are probably crazy anyway.

Change your hair color grow it long
Change your style and wear a thong
That will put some spring in your step
Or goose yourself to give you some pep
Don't worry what the neighbors might say
They are probably crazy anyway

Dance till the wee hours in the morning
Let loose, but don’t get lost in the spring
Smile, even if there’s nobody around
Run, until you’re nowhere to be found
Don’t worry what the neighbors might say
You are more than crazy than they anyway..

Pssst..have fun reading this, please, lol.

a fun collab write with David Harris and Jojo Bean

    Superb write and very sharp humor, love the thoughts in this kyrielle poem. The last lines repeated gave the poem a lot of pizazz. Happy New Year Meggie. Reply

    'A little fun keeps you young;
    A little laughter keeps you bright.
    When you get to that age'...

    Funny and amusing...fun apart, i find a ray of wisdom in those quoted lines...do you mean a kid daughter- a grand daughter- will keep us 'young' when we get to that 'age' Meggie? ...excellent piece...10

  1. A Little Squirrel (Fun Poem)

    All summer long he collected his nuts Burying them here and there When it came to dig them up He couldn’t remember where He hid his treasure store The moral of this tale Be sure, there is one indeed If you want to bury your treasures And you ain’t that smart Draw a little map, that will help for a start

Must I have sexy singing Leg-flinging swingers, Botty-bumping antics From wide-eyed romantics When I got you babe? Not looking! To me my handsome honey-bun You're all of them rolled into one. Come on let's have our bit o' fun. Television Off.

  3. Making Fun

    Do you enjoy while making fun? Do you fear while pointing a gun? Where you ever chased or made a run? If not, then you are exceptionally only one We forget while making fun at other Care not for feelings and never bother When we face the same situation one day? We feel hell let loose and no hope of ray We have no grief over thousands who perish Take all kind of life risks which endanger and finish Still life goes on and nothing stops Show also goes on and never flops Physical injury can be recovered New stars can also be discovered Bitter words or ill feelings pinch us most May deliver a blow at personal cost Why don’t we care and respect the honour Whether family members, tenants or owner? Let us be the first to repair the damage Worst crisis face and try to manage You may think race is over and won May not realize ill feelings and frown They will not hesitate to bring you down Time is not far when completely disowned It is better soon to be realized Recover fast before you are marginalized Let whole blame passes and generalized With less discomfort and not much penalized Learn quickly and forget so soon Enjoy the day light and night with moon Life may seem sweet and worth to enjoy This is how we adopt to live with joy

  4. 'Find Such Fun 03/10/09

    When things are going well, I forget man- kind’s sufferings, but then we race through the land in hubby’s big new car, eating junk so that I grab the psalmbook to find refuge against the arrows of allergic evil Start reading Psalm 38 as rhymed in Afrikaans by a Revisionist Commission in 1936 and find such fun in the sufferings of a fellow allergy- sufferer who seems to have a hangover also, making me laugh, thus I feel better again! The Psalm and Hymn Book published by the Dutch Reformed Church,1958; Psalm 38 pp.75-78 *************************************************** Vreugdestem Wanneer dit goed gaan, vergeet ek van ellende en kranklikhede en dwarrel al te vrolik in die wêreld rond, doodgelukkig met al die peste en plae wat die mens- dom vertoorn Dan spring ons in manlief se groot, blink mouterkar en jaag soos besetenes deur die land, eet alles wat my arme sisteem nie kan verteer nie, kreunend ervaar die uwe dan weer die saligmakende lyding van chemiese wanbalans En gryp na die Psalm en Gesangeboek om die pyle van die bose af te weer, lees Psalm 38 deur ‘n mede-allergielyer geskryf vers 5: Al my kwale en my plae wek mishae (en hoe!) vers 6: In my lende is ontsteking en verbreking, niks is heel meer aan my Maar by vers 7 lag ek al weer: In my hart se afgrond ruis dit, aaklig bruis dit, daarom brul ek in verdriet – dit is ‘n beskrywing van iemand wat brul van babbelaas, vers 10 is net so snaaks: Ver van my uit diep mishae vir my plae het my vriende weggegaan, selfs verwante wil nie bly nie naby my nie Dit was woes, almal het lekker en lank gekuier, vers 9: Ag hoe skud my hart en bewe, uitgelewe is my krag en opgeteer, oë gans en al ontluister skemerduister sien geen daglig amper meer; in ‘n ommesientjie sing ek nou ‘n ander deuntjie, vers 17: Hoor die vreugdestem van ‘n lyder O Bevryder, ek bely my sonde onomwonde - voel nou klopdisselboom, gereed vir nog meer pret!
