It’s Not Polite To Stare Poem by Khristian E. Kay

It’s Not Polite To Stare

Emmett’s mother had it right
Not letting her son go quietly
She made a stand opening the casket
Showing her mutilated son
Showing the humanity of it all
“Look! ” Look at what they did to my son! ”
“Look! ”

Some of us did
Out of fear – conformity
Some out of spite
Some concern
But most of us turned our backs on Emmett’s mother

On all mothers who seek justice
For the killing of their children.
