It Took So Long Poem by Char Pattrick

You see, I was numb for so very long
And people said, “Oh my, she is strong”
They did not know I could not feel
My broken heart made it all unreal

The horror shattered thought of reality
But everyone has forever moved on
You see, everyone except for me
Now, when I need friends most of all
Between us there now stands a wall
My pain is more than they can bear
When I mention to them of my loss
I see their faces with a blank stare

“But I thought you were over it”
Their eyes and minds seem to say
No, no, I can not listen, not today
So I smile and pretend, to say
“Oh, it is ok”, but inside I am crying
as I shatter inside and turn away

And so my dearest special friend
I shall paint on this forever smile
As I have from then, the start
You never knowing all this while
I’ve just said to you in my heart

No, no please don’t look away
And change the subject it is ok
You see at first I could not feel
It took so long, but now it is real
I hurt so much inside you see

It is tattooed inside of me for you
You are but one of this little few.
