It Was You Poem by Danielle Morgan

It Was You

I've been waiting for that moment of defining clarity.
For someone to tell me what is what and who is me.
Could it be you?
Could it be you?

All I've ever known
was to believe what everyone has said.
And to search for someone
to mend my life with that final thread.
I thought it was you.
I thought it was you.

You told me once that you could never love someone
the way that you loved me.
You held me so close to your heart
it made it so easy for me to believe
It could be you.
It could be you.

And they always say
to live your life with nothing regrettable.
And for a while yo made my regrets forgettable.
I found nothing in the somber silence that I would seek.
It made me vulnerable for someone to hurt me where I was weak.
And it was you.
And it was YOU.

And I won't hold my breath
waiting for you to say you're sorry.
You're my one regret.
Aren't you proud you ruined me? ? ?

So I say goodbye,
knowing full well that I'll come back to this memory someday.
You're just like a scar,
and even time won't make you fade completely away.
