I've been unfaithful
I confess!
I should be in the arms of one,
But I'm in the arms of another!
I assert!
'Tis not my fault, but rather,
That of My Dearly Beloved.
He did go gallivanting,
Without a thought for me,
And led me into temptation!
I declare!
I resisted the tempter's allure,
But this be a tenacious tempter,
Flee easily, he does not,
He wraps me in his arms,
'Tis warm, blame me not!
I insist!
And please believe me:
Mr Insomnia's attentions are unwanted,
But he is always here for me,
When Mr Sleep goes a-traipsing
Who-knows-where, in the wee of night.
I testify!
That though I beg off,
Mr Insomnia be so attentive,
Not letting me even blink.
And there is much evidence
Of our night-time trysts
One more story written,
One more poem penned
One more work of literary art enjoyed,
One more open-eyed dream dreamt.
I admit!
He does do me a favour,
For He gets me to create and read,
And these be the worthiest
Of 'time passers'.
Aaaah, Mr Sleep returneth,
From his footloose ways,
Begone, Mr Insomnia,
For Mr Sleep overwhelms me
With such attention that
He virtually knocks me out.
I yawn,
I slip into the arms of Morpheus
And give myself fully to Mr Sleep
He promises not to leave tonight.
Sigh! I hope he keeps his word,
But even if he doesn't,
Mr Insomnia is ever on call, and
Much literary art awaits my attention
