Jack Poem by robert dickerson

Jack

Jack back
into the box, press-
but a spring within a sock.
Latch the lid.
Uncrank the crank.
Unspin the thin
yet plaintive tune.
Remember how
all changed
between then and now.

'No, you can't put Jack
back into any box, love.
Jack doesn't live here, now.
Jack doesn't even exist any more.
So there'.

Jack back
into the box shove-
but a silly sock
drawn upon a spring.
Press his jester's head
down into the dark.
Uncrank the crank,
recalling just how
all changed
between then and now.

No, you can't put Jack
back into any box, fool love.
Jack's long gone; he isn't here.
He doesn't even exist any more.
So there'.
