Jake Poem by James Tyler

Jake

Rating: 5.0

A shock of life
As he burst out the door
No sense of strife
And he’s begging for more

Heading north
In the sweltering heat
Back and forth
Swing his legs to beat

His favorite song
Sung in his head
Nothing is wrong
Impossibly red

Turning the corner
With grace and speed
Described the coroner
He needed to heed

The driver was going
Incredibly fast
Not even knowing
If it was safe to pass

In the time that it took
To realize his mistake
The child saw his look
And knew it was fake

A powerful connection
Between man and child
A cause of the action
That was born in the wild

The connection lives on
It hangs in the air
The child passed on
The man’s in a chair

He wish it weren’t true
That the story was fake
The story of a boy
His son, named Jake
